Discovering Something Special in the Ordinary

Today while visiting a local waterfall with my family I glanced down at the sidewalk to discover words: Pouring, Rumbling, Sparkling, Breathtaking, Splashing and Soaking! An ordinary sidewalk transformed by simple words. Several people passed over the words unaware, but I stopped and photographed the moment. I saw something special in an ordinary sidewalk and it graced my day; I was aware!


Taking time to slow down and notice the simply things in life can reveal something special that normally would go unnoticed.

Nurturing the Soul - My Studio

My Studio

Finding time to create and nurture my soul with a 5 year old running around can be a challenge, one I know many moms can identify with.  Finding this moment to write is a challenge, I asked my husband to keep my son occupied for 15 minutes.  Then "mommy guilt," creeps in..(sigh)..I strive daily to find balance!   I am the only one who can create balance but this is done by setting boundaries and declaring "time for me!”  I am  the only person who can create my happiness, no one else is responsible for  this.  It’s easy to point the finger at everyone else but I need to look in the mirror when I’m feeling impatient and grumpy, RED FLAG Lisa, “Your tank is empty” get out there and run or get into the studio; NURTURE YOURSELF!

Creating is my way of nurturing my soul!

Seeing Clearly – Discovering Your Values

The other morning I awoke early and decided to go for a run. Running at dawn is my favorite time, no one is around and the world seems still except for the sounds of my breath and feet hitting the pavement. This is my time; I devote it to nurturing myself. I am able to release tensions and clear my mind. I am always amazed and how I “see and hear” the world around me during a run. This day I saw rabbits nibbling away on dew soaked blades of grass, they scurry off as I approach. The beauty of a yellow snail shell lying against the side of the road with the snail’s head slightly emerged just taking in the day. Finally I noticed the first signs of Falls approach; the maple leaves have begun to turn shades of yellow, brown, and red. Change is continuous and I am changed from this run, I have taken time to nurture myself and feel better for tending to this deeply needed value!
